Pennsylvania 6 Philly - New Menu Party & Review

Thanks to the PHL Bloggers I was invited to try out the new menu at Pennsylvania 6 Philly and it was quite a treat!

Penn6 has been open since 2013 and boasts a prohibition atmosphere with a modern American flare.

I was impressed by the attention to detail on simple dishes turned sophisticated. For example the citrus salad topped with a quail egg; simple but bold. Or there was the gazpacho, with a traditional base, but non-dairy, thickened with olive oil and finished with a chipotle kick at the end. The seafood is not to be overlooked; they offer a full raw bar and several seafood dishes.

My favorite was the pan seared salmon, which featured a cauliflower puree, bacon and brussel sprouts. Bam! What a well-rounded dish.  Easily overlooked on the menu, was the Soft Polenta. I had no idea what to expect when dipping my spoon in this one. Whipped to a silky cream, the polenta is mixed with pine nuts, cheese and golden beets. Yum! A must try!  Lastly, the crab cake was exactly what I had hoped for; flavor and consistency was on point.

Here are my stats (I plan on returning for a full review):

Overall rank: 4 out of 5
Type: American, Seafood
Favorite Dishes: Pan Seared Salmon, Polenta, Crab Cake and Bacon Braised Brussel Sprouts
Friendly for: Vegetarians, Pescitarians
Location: 114 South 12th Street, Philadelphia, PA
Price: $$$
You can leave for under $30 with a modest burger and beer, but other items on the menu are worth the splurge.

Overall Penn6 offers a variety of healthful, fresh choices, with vegetables on almost every dish. Perfect choice for a variety of occasions, a  night out at the bar or a special dinner date. I highly recommend. Cheers!
