Review: HipCityVeg (Philadelphia)

HipCityVeg is exactly what the name says – hip to the trends of vegetarians and vegans with locations in the heart of Philadelphia. If you’ve been skeptical of vegetarian/vegan food, give their Buffalo Bella Sandwich a try and you will see what you’ve been missing! HipCityVeg is a must try!

Creativity is bursting in every dish but without the un-healthy ingredients we’ve all become accustom to. All food is vegan, organic, and locally sourced when possible. They even have dessert!

The Philly Steak is one of my favorites. Wait – a cheesesteak that’s vegan and meatless? Yes, I agree there is something about it that goes against my Philly heritage but try it anyway! Many of the items on the menu are spin offs of American favorites, like a chicken sandwich, burger, nuggets, fries and milkshakes.

The Buffalo Bella is also at the top of my list! I’m craving one as I write. I love mushrooms so I was excited to try this sandwich - one big portabella mushroom topped with slaw, tomato and a mildly spicy sauce. It met my expectations and then some. Give this flavorful sandwich a try!

Doesn't look like a mushroom, huh?

The Vibe: Modern and un-assuming. Décor is colorful, fun and the space is welcoming. Staff is friendly and service is quick. If you go at dinner time expect a line (sign of something good if you ask me!)

Here is an excerpt from their website that gives a great view from the owner’s eyes...
When Nicole Marquis created HipCityVeg® she worked to come up with a novel, yet obvious design: fast-food inspired fresh vegan food: Burgers, Fries, Salads, Wraps, healthy drinks and desserts. There’s nothing elitist about it, no pretense. Yes, HipCityVeg® is about health and compassion for living things and the earth, but the food is about tasting good.

Go ahead, give it a try – vegan or not!
